Your hydration goal

How is my daily goal worked out?
From the details you enter at setup: body weight, biological sex, activity level, and local climate. You can change any of them later in Settings under Edit Profile, and the goal recalculates, unless you have set a custom goal.

Can I just set my own goal?
Yes. Settings, then Daily Goal, then set a custom goal. A custom goal is not affected by later profile changes.

Why did my goal go up today?
If you turned on Adjust for Activity, Sproutly raises the goal on days you record a workout in Apple Health, based on the extra energy burned above your activity level's normal baseline. A card on the main screen explains it. If a workout does not clear that baseline, the goal is unchanged.

Do coffee and tea count toward my goal?
Yes, though not always at full value. Each drink type has a hydration weighting. Water counts fully; coffee, tea, and juice count fully or nearly so; alcoholic drinks count less and stop counting past a small daily amount.

Logging drinks

How do I log a drink?
Tap the plus button on the main screen, choose a drink type and amount, and confirm. Or tap a Quick Drink for one-tap logging.

What are Quick Drinks?
Saved shortcuts for the drinks you have most often, like a glass of water or your usual mug of coffee. Tap one to log it instantly, from the app, the medium Home Screen widget, or your Apple Watch. Sproutly starts you with four water Quick Drinks. Creating and editing your own is a Sproutly Pro feature.

I logged the wrong thing.
Tap the entry in today's list to change its amount, type, or time, or swipe it to delete. Editing entries on earlier days is a Sproutly Pro feature.

Millilitres and fluid ounces

How do I switch units?
Settings, then Units. The change applies everywhere straight away. "oz" means US fluid ounces.

Which unit does Sproutly start in?
It follows your device's region: fluid ounces in the US, millilitres elsewhere, until you choose in Settings.

Reminders

What is the difference between Smart Reminders and Custom Reminders?
Smart Reminders space themselves around when you last drank and how close you are to your goal, and stay quiet during the hours you set. Custom Reminders fire at fixed times on the weekdays you choose, whatever you have logged. You use one style or the other, chosen in Settings under Reminders.

I turned reminders on but nothing happens.
Check that notifications are allowed for Sproutly in iOS Settings, then Notifications, then Sproutly. If Quiet Hours covers the current time, the next reminder is scheduled for after it ends. Reminders are also rebuilt whenever you open the app or log a drink.

How many Custom Reminders can I have?
One on the free tier. Sproutly Pro removes the limit. A locked reminder is never deleted; it just stops firing until you subscribe again.

Apple Health

Does Sproutly sync with Apple Health?
Yes, if you allow it. Water you log is written to Apple Health, and water is read back so your daily total matches whatever else writes to Health. Workouts are read, not written, for the optional goal adjustment.

How do I turn Health sync on or off?
During setup, or later in Settings under Apple Health. You can pause water syncing there without touching your system-level Health permissions. To change what Sproutly can access at all, use iOS Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Health, then Sproutly.

My weight in Sproutly is wrong.
Weight is a value you type into your profile, not read from Apple Health. Update it in Settings under Edit Profile.

I use another hydration app too. Will entries double up?
Sproutly de-duplicates against the Health samples it wrote itself, so its own entries are counted once. Entries other apps write to Health are also counted once.

Home Screen widget and Apple Watch

How do I add the widget?
Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap the plus, and search for Sproutly. The small widget shows your progress; the medium widget has quick-log buttons.

The widget is showing an old total.
Widgets refresh a few seconds after you log, and at least once a day. If it looks stuck, open the app once to force a refresh. On a real device a delay of a minute or two can be normal.

Do I need my phone for the Apple Watch app?
You can log a drink and see today's progress from the watch on its own. It syncs with your phone when they are next in range. If the two totals differ for a moment, opening either app usually reconciles them.

Siri

Can I log a drink with Siri?
Yes, by naming one of your Quick Drinks: say "Siri, log Coffee in Sproutly", using your own drink's name. Open a Quick Drink to see its phrase, or go to Settings, Help, Siri & Shortcuts for every phrase.

Can Siri tell me how I'm doing?
Ask "Siri, how much have I drank in Sproutly" or "Siri, how much do I have left to drink in Sproutly".

Siri doesn't recognise my Quick Drink.
Unusual names, like brand names, can be hard for Siri to match. You can build a shortcut in the Shortcuts app with a name you choose: tap "Not being recognised? Build a shortcut." under the drink's Siri phrase for step-by-step instructions.

Which languages does Siri understand?
English, Spanish, French and German. Use the phrases for the language Siri is set to.

Streaks

How does the streak work?
Each day you reach your goal adds to your streak. Missing a day resets it. It shows on the main screen.

Sproutly Pro

What does Sproutly Pro include?
Custom Quick Drinks, unlimited Custom Reminders (one is free), and editing entries on past days. Core tracking, Apple Health sync, today's logging, the widgets, and the Apple Watch app are all free.

What does it cost?
An annual plan with a 7-day free trial, or a one-time lifetime purchase. You will see the price in your local currency when you go to upgrade to Sproutly Pro in the app.

How does the free trial work?
Choose the annual plan when you upgrade to Sproutly Pro. It becomes a paid subscription when the 7 days end, unless you cancel first. Apple allows one trial per subscription group per Apple ID.

How do I cancel?
On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Sproutly, then Cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Pro until the current period ends. The lifetime purchase does not renew and does not need cancelling.

I paid but the features are still locked.
Go to Settings, then Subscription, then Restore Purchases. You can also tap Restore Purchases on the Sproutly Pro screen itself. Make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID you bought with. If it still does not unlock, email us.

I want a refund.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request it there.

Does Pro work on my other devices?
Yes. It is tied to your Apple ID. Use Restore Purchases on a new device.

Editing past days

Can I add a drink I forgot yesterday?
Yes, with Sproutly Pro. Open History, go to the day, and use Log Missed Drink. Editing or deleting past entries is also part of Pro.

Why is past-day editing behind Pro when today is free?
Today's list is always fully editable for everyone. Only changes to earlier days need Pro.

Your data

Where is my data stored?
On your device, in your own iCloud if iCloud sync is on, and in Apple Health if you enable it. Sproutly has no accounts and no servers of its own, and uses no analytics or tracking. See the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my data?
Delete the app, and the copy on that device goes with it. If iCloud sync is on, a copy stays in your iCloud, under your control: in iOS Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then Saved to iCloud, then Sproutly. Because it is in your iCloud and not on any server of ours, we cannot access or delete it for you. Anything synced to Apple Health stays in the Health app under your control until you remove it there.

Does Sproutly sync between my devices? How do I turn it off?
Yes, through your own iCloud, as long as the devices use the same Apple Account. It is on by default. To turn it off on a device, open Settings in Sproutly, then iCloud & Apple Health, and switch off Sync with iCloud. It takes effect the next time you open the app, and that device keeps its own data.

Can I export my data?
Water you have synced to Apple Health can be exported from the Health app (your profile, then Export All Health Data). Sproutly does not have its own export yet.

Still stuck, or have an idea?

The app is behaving oddly.
Close and reopen it. If a total looks wrong, pull down to refresh on the main screen. If that does not help, email us with your iPhone model and iOS version.

I would like a new feature.
